The project Waterloo Region Community Support Services Merger will merge four independent not-for-profit charitable community support service agencies into one entity. The collaboration of Raise, Meals on Wheels of Kitchener-Waterloo, Kitchener-Waterloo Friendship Group for Seniors, Meals on Wheels and Community Home Support (Cambridge)- means better and more efficiently service for the seniors within the Region.
The collaborative has responded to the new direction identified by the Ministry of Health in their integrated health care system initiative, a local report entitled Community Support Services Project Waterloo Region Wellington Dufferin Final Report, June 2005, and Local Health Integration Networks fact sheet. The new merged agency would provide a mix of services including: friendly visiting, security calls, caregiver support, meals on wheels, congregate dining, home help/homemaking, transportation, home maintenance and client intervention and assistance. Services are provided by a mix of staff, volunteers and brokered workers.
The Foundation’s 2 year grant of $75,000 to Raise will go towards the cost of merging the four community support organizations into one entity to better serve seniors.
