The WRCSF is committed to resource development for the Waterloo Catholic District Schools, to support a comprehensive and equitable, quality education within the context of our Faith-based learning community.
The Blended Bicycles program will provide students the opportunity to participate in a "hands-on" learning experience, divert bicycles from the Region's landfill, promote healthy-active living, and offer the community access to affordable bicycles.
The vision of the program is to blend together discarded bicycles, with the repair skills to be developed by students, and the good will of distributing the bicycles back into the community. The program uses the expertise and experience of the Recycle Cycles project of The Working Centre in Kitchener to spearhead this project in the secondary schools in Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge. Blended Bicycles will provide students with the opportunity to learn bicycle repair and the use of proper tools, visit The Working Centre which runs the Recycle Cycles program, and participate in a work experience at The Working Centre.
The Foundation’s contribution of $20,000 to the Waterloo Region Catholic Schools Foundation will purchase tool kits to enable the project to operate over a five year period.
