House of Friendship

The mission of the House of Friendship is to serve low-income adults, youth and children in need of support and to promote opportunities for personal growth, wholesome relationships and community development through the application of holistic Christian principles.

House of Friendship operates four community centres in low-income neighbourhoods in Kitchener-Waterloo. The After-School programs include homework support, arts and crafts, service projects, science experiments, occasional outings, active outdoor games/sports, free play time, computer instruction, cooking and learning about nutrition, financial literacy, fun educational games/activities that build math and literacy skills, and music lessons. The After-School Program is a vital part of our Community Centre programs and provides opportunities for over 200 children and youth to be actively involved in a wide variety of wholesome, constructive activities, and provides a safe, supervised place for children to go after school.

The goal of the After-School programs is to provide a wide variety of educational, recreational and social activities in neighbourhoods for children and youth of low-income families that build important competencies and skills that improve their health (physical, developmental, educational and social).

The Foundation’s grant of $90,000 will help with the cost of operating the Community Centre after-school programmes offered in four Kitchener Waterloo neighbourhoods, enabling the program to continue for two years while they explore longer-term funding options for these programmes.
