Engaging the Townships

A grant to conduct research in the townships on how to best engage and partner with community service providers to deliver Big Brother Big Sisters programs.

Future Vision Ministries (Canada)

Get Ready For School Program

$29,204 (2 year grant)

This project will equip 25 children in 2011 and 25 children in 2012 with very early pre-literacy skills and school readiness behaviours in the area of Cambridge North.

Waterloo Region Baby Literacy Initiative

$74,000 (3 year grant)

Community organizations, through collaborative efforts, motivate and support parents through training and use of a literacy toolkit to facilitate early literacy skill development starting in the first year of their child's life.

Virtual YMCA

The Virtual YMCA is a literacy-based program focusing on academic support and social growth for children in grades SK-5 living in under-serviced neighbourhoods with limited access to resources, programs, services, and transportation.

Strengthening our Community: Child and Family Project

 

$170,000 (2 year grant)

This project expands the success of STEAM (Skills and Tools for Emotion Awareness and Management) to its 4 and 5 year old early learners, their parents and schools, along with a universal media campaign to support all adults in raising healthy children.

Autism Services Waterloo Region

 

$140,000 (2 year grant)

This grant will enable the organization to continue its collaborative efforts to create a recognizable, accessible website for families with an autistic child and will help to build the capacity of families and enhance social networks.

KWS 3-year School Concert Program Cycle

 

40,000 (2 year grant)

The KWS was seeking funding to develop two new education programs to complete its three-year School Concert Program cycle which is delivered free of charge to elementary schools across Waterloo Region and beyond.

Roots of Empathy is an evidence-based classroom program (K-8) that has shown a dramatic effect in reducing levels of aggression and violence among school children while raising social/emotional competence and increasing empathy.

Building Bridges to Success: Creating Links to Post-Secondary Education

 

$425,000 (5 year grant)

Building Bridges to Success will offer Waterloo Region high school students from at-risk communities the opportunity to earn a university credit within a supportive environment. This pilot project will help enhance the confidence, study skills and career success of marginalized students, and encourage them to pursue a post-secondary education.

Capacity Waterloo Region will promote strategic planning related to technology through workshops and small group training on technology and innovation for the non-profit sector in Waterloo Region.

This project supports a plan of excellence and innovation for Waterloo Region's Family Violence Program (FVP) that develops on the success of the past four years to strengthen the foundation of the collaborative by building the infra/structure.

Psychiatric Outreach Project

$65,000 (2 year grant)

The Psychiatric Outreach Project (POP) provides access to psychiatric medical supports in an outreach model for those at risk of homelessness in K-W. This project helps to create a sustainable model for bridging the homeless with the medical system.

A capital grant used for the construction of the indoor children's play area at the new Anselma House shelter.
