What we fund
Projects related to the Foundation’s three grant programmes: health, education and children
Program and capital costs; administrative and evaluation costs related to the grant may be included
Short-term projects – the majority of our grants are for one year
Multi-year funding will be considered for start-up projects and for projects moving from a pilot phase to a core program. However, the Foundation does not normally provide ongoing core funding
Broad-based community projects that involve the participation of diverse sectors of Waterloo Region working towards a common community priority related to health, education or children’s initiatives
Projects where the Foundation’s contribution stimulates and actively encourages other donors and sectors of the community to become involved
Projects that can demonstrate funding and support from multiple sources; the Foundation seldom funds more than 50% of any proposal
Capacity building and leadership development
In addition, requests may be given a higher priority if they:
Create new connections and bridge gaps between services
Promote collaboration with other groups
Demonstrate how they will measure the impact of the grant
Include a plan for how they will share the results of the grant with others
What we do not normally fund
Requests for funds to replace declining government assistance
Requests to reduce accumulated capital or operating deficits
Special events such as dinners or annual campaigns
Financial assistance for individuals
Pure academic or basic research
Endowments
Emergency, crisis or bridge funding
Scholarships
